Getting Hardcopy

Media Services offers several output options for generating hardcopy from digital files.

User Operated Printers

Macintosh users may print document to one of the three special-purpose printers by selecting it in the Chooser and printing in the usual way. Macintosh and Widows NT users will find Godzilla in the Skirball 3 Floor Appletalk zone; other Windows users may use Samba to connect via MCBI-34; UNIX access is via K-Spool on MCBI-34. Macintosh Printer Description files (PPDs) and PDF drivers (recommended for best results with QuarkExpress) for these printers are available from the Public Stuff directory on Saturn and for non-institute members, in the utilities directory on Titan.

Staff Operated Printers

Digital color photographs and 35mm slides are produced by Media Services staff from electronically submitted, specially formatted files. Posters are printed by users under the supervision of Media Services staff. Fees are charged for output from these machines.
