Changing water pumps and motors

The chiller has two water pumps and associated motors. When you get no water flow (R-AXIS will shut down) or get temperatures above what you set, they might be damaged. To change them, first drain the water in the tank and then lift the top cover and take off front panel. Dismount the pump and the motor together (remember to mark the hoses and wires before dismounting them!!). There are three screws fixing them together and between (inside) them is a brass coupling. If the coupling is completely worn out, you have either or both of them bad. Usually, the pump is for sure bad. If you can still turn the shaft of the motor easily with your bare fingures, the motor is probably still okay. You can actually reconnect the motor to the chiller and turn on the power for a couple of second without the pump. If the motor still rotates, it's okay and you need to change the pump only.

You may wonder before doing all this which pump/motor set is bad. Touch a pump with the tip of a screw driver and put your ear on the other end of the screw driver, and you should be able to tell. If the coupling is bad inside, you can tell by looking at a small hole on the motor (three of them about 2mm in diameter and near the pump end). You should see black metal powders if the coupling is worn out while it should be absolutely clean otherwise.
