You
can find Virex on the Public Stuff volume available by
logging onto Saturn (via the Chooser).
First, find the folder named Antivirus Stuff and open it
by double clicking on it.
In the Antivirus Stuff folder you'll find a folder
called Virex 6.1.
Drag the Virex 6.1 folder to your desktop.
Inside
the Virex 6.1 folder you will find two installers: Install
Virex which installs the Virex application and all necessary
files, and Install Administrator which installs
a software package that enables us to update Virex virus definitions
over the network.
You will need to run the Virex Installer first and the Administrator
installer next. At this time, save your work and quit all your
programs to proceed with the Installation.
Open
the Virex 6.1 folder which you had copied to your desktop
and double click on the Install Virex icon.
When the installer launches, a screen will be presented which
looks like the one on the right.
If you're updating a very old version of Virex you may need
to manually remove it first. In such case, please contact
us.
Click
on the Scan button.
When Scan is clicked another dialog box will be presented:
Click
on the Scan button.
The installer then scans the hard drive for viruses which it knows
about
(which is not all the viruses to be sure, but as you will see,
we'll do another scan in just a few more minutes).
If the scan finds any viruses, it will ask (with a prompt) whether
or not the file should be repaired. (Be sure to answer repair.)
After the scan has completed, the main Virex Installer screen
will be presented again (as shown below).
Now
click on Install.
When you do that it will present you with yet another dialog
box:
For
the vast majority of users, the default settings will suffice.
Simply click on the Install button.
When engaged, the program will start to scan for old versions
of Virex and it will remove them. Let it finish this task.
At the end of the installation process the program will present
a prompt which gives the option to quit.
The dialog box looks like this:
After
the application has quit it will present a final dialog box:
Now
it's the time to install the Virex Administrator package.
Because
of a problem with the Virex Administrator installer we had
to remove it. You need to install it manually but it's very
easy to do. Just open the Virex Administrator folder, find
Virex Responder and put it in yur Control Panels folder. Restart
your computer now.
We're done with part 1. But we're
not ready to reboot just yet. Now we have to update our
Virus definitions.
The next thing to do is to update the virus definitions.
These
instructions are only needed for first time Virex installation.
Only do this once when installing Virex 6.1 for the first time.
The Virex Administrator software allows us to update the virus
definitions over the network without user interaction.
You can find the most recent virus definitions on Public Stuff
(available from Saturn via the Chooser).
You can find the most recent virus definitions update in the
same folder where you previously found the Installer.
The file is named "Virus Definitions XXXX-XX-XX", where
XXXX-XX-XX is the date, for instance: Virus Definitions
2000-04-01.
You can also download the current virus definitions directly from
our web site by clicking hereLINK
NO LONGER AVAILABLE! .
You
need to double click on this file which will launch Virex and
present you with the following window:
Click
on the Update button...
And finally after it finishes it will indicate that it has finished.
To finish everything up and make the changes take effect, reboot
you system by selecting "Restart" in the Special
Menu.
