Open up Toast by clicking on its icon. Toast Titanium 5 lets you create a hybrid CD in two ways. The first simple way is not recommened. We will explain it so that you know the difference.
Preparing and recording a hybrid CD
First, simple way is to create a basic hybrid CD. Click on data, the select Mac OS and PC (Hybrid) CD. This creates a cross-platform data CD. This is not a professional quality cross platform CD. Mac users will be able to see PC files and vice versa. This may be a bit confusing but the files are useable on separate systems.

This option is not recommended due to the fact that Mac files contain file attributes and may not have name extensions so that they are not understood by PC. On the other hand, PC files may have long file names that will render them useless to a Mac.
The right way of creating a hybrid CD is to record a CD in Custom Hybrid format. This format combines both ISO 9660 and Mac OS Standard (HFS) or Extended (HFS+) format on a single CD. This CD can be read on a Mac and on a PC, with the Mac data visible only to Macintosh users and the ISO data visible only to the PC users. This allows Mac users to see normal icons and window positions while maintaining complete compatibility with DOS/Windows systems.

Click on Other icon and select Custom Hybrid.

Prepare the data for the Macintosh in a temporary partition as if you would do for a normal Mac OS CD - go here for instructions.

This partition will contain the files that will be only visible to a Mac computer and also files and folders that will be shared and visible by both Mac and PC computers.

Then click on the Select Mac button as seen on the right.
In the next window select your temporary partition and click OK. Then click on the Select ISO button.
From your temporary partition, or another location (depending of your needs) drag the files that you want to be visible on a PC to the ISO 9660 window. No special preparation is needed for the ISO part except that you must have file name extensions and you should contain your ISO files in folders, don't just drop loose files into this window.

If you drag files files from your temporary Mac partition it will be automatically shared between both systems. If you select data from any other sources it will only be visible to the PC users.

Click on the Settings tab.
Make sure that CD-ROM is selected. It should be by default. CD-ROM XA is only used for mixed-mode CDs that contain CD audio tracks and data and for video CDs.

Then select Joliet (MS-DOS + Windows) from the second menu. Joliet format stores file names in two volume descriptors. One for DOS, that has truncated 8.3 names and one for 32 bit Windows OS that keep long file names. This creates a disk that both DOS and Windows can see properly and preserves long file names.

Click Done.

Proceed to the next page to finalize your hybrid CD.
