How to login to Saturn and Titan using Mac OS 9.x
This page contains instructions for mac OS 9.x only!
As of February 12th, 2008 Saturn no longer accepts file sharing connections from Macs (AFP) and from PCs (SMB). Whenever you were using saturn.med.nyu.edu or saturn.skb.med.nyu.edu just use jupiter.med.nyu.edu or jupiter.skb.med.nyu.edu instead.
We will try to replace all instances of saturn with jupiter on our help pages, but it may take some time, or we may miss a few. So as a rule of a thumb, whenever connecting to your home directory, lab space, admin space, Public Stuff, Office or Adobe software distributions always use jupiter from now on. Use the same username and password: jupiter is saturn's twin:)
Open the Chooser and select the AppleShare icon by clicking once on it.
Click on the large button in the lower right corner named Server IP Address.

You don't need to select Skirball 3rd floor AppleTalk Zone in the lower window.

NOTE:
If there is no Server IP Address... button in your Chooser you may be running an outdated version of MacOS.

In such case click here to contact us.
This brings up a window prompting you to enter the server address...
In that window simply type the server's name: jupiter.med.nyu.edu or
titan.skb.med.nyu edu and click the Connect button.

Simply typing saturn or titan should work if your networking settings are correct. Otherwise type the full name as shown above.

NOTE:
If you're using a dialup connection you can also log into Saturn. First, before you dial in, open your AppleTalk control panel and select Remote Only from the Connect via: pop-up menu on the top. Close it and save changes when asked.
This will bring up the login window. Type your username and your password in the appropriate boxes and click Connect

NOTE:
This is your saturn account username an password - the same you use to check your @saturn e-mail. It is usually your last name in lowercase. Do not use your Saturn username for Titan, both username and password for Titan are simply Titan (note capitalization!).
After logging on, you will be presented with several choices, each representing a volume on the server (a volume is approximately the same thing as a hard drive): 7 Day Parking (temporary storage automatically emptied weekly), Public Stuff, DMC, and a user volume as well as some other volumes you may have been given access to.

Each volume may be accessed (or "mounted") by double-clicking on its name. Multiple volumes may be selected by shift-clicking each name and then clicking the OK button. Do not check the little boxes to the right of the volume names!

The example on the right shows Saturn login window. If you log in to Titan you will see different volumes including Park Till 5am, Temporary Presentations, makefujix and makeslides. Refer to DMC page to learn how to use the other DMC related directories.

You can use Park Till 5am volume on Titan for moving files around the network but keep in mind that is irreversibly erased every morning at 5am, and there is no backup! You can use Temporary_Presentations to keep small files overnight but it gets periodically erased as well.
The volumes you have selected now appear on the desktop of your Macintosh computer, along with your local hard drive:
