Configuring access privileges
Now you can confure the access privileges.
You can set access privileges globally for a whole disk or fine tune it so users will have access to particular folders only. If you have more than one hard drive you will need to set the privileges for each drive individually.

Click once on your hard drive's icon just to highlight it.
From the File menu select Get Info then Sharing as shown on the right.

NOTE:

If you're running Mac OS 8.1 the menu item Sharing will appear under Get Info in the first branch of the contextual menu!
If you want to share the whole disk check the Share this item and its contents checkbox. If you want to share only a particular folder do not check this box now.It will be explained on the next page how to share single folders as opposed to a whole hard disk.
After you have checked the box you will need to set the level of access privileges for your users. Click on the User/Group pull-down menu and select your group or only the user that you want to have access to your drive. Remember that selecting only one user here will prevent all others from accessing the computer.

That is why we created a Lab Users group so we can give the whole group the same level of access privileges.
Select your users group and proceed to the next step.
The pull-down menus on the right (with little triangles) let you assign one of four access privilege levels:- Read & Write

- Read only
- Write only
- None

You can give your users either full Read & Write privileges or partial only.Make sure that Everyone's privileges are set to None!
This is how it looks like...You can click the Copy button to extend these privileges to all the enclosed folders. You will be able to exclude certain folders later on. This is explained on the next page.
Go to the next page to learn how to share individual folders.
