Windows 2000 TCP/IP Configuration
Once you have submitted the IP address request form make sure that your TCP/IP control panel is configured properly. This page shows how to set it up under Windows 2000. These instructions will also work for Windows XP as well.
Right click on My Network Places icon your desktop and select Properties. This gets you to the same place as opening the Network And Dialup Connections control panel inside My Computer.
The next window shows you all your active and inactive network connections: dialup, Ethernet and others you may have such as wireless adapters or Fire Wire network adapters. The number of potential configurations is huge so we can't possibly show you all possible screenshots. The example on the right is a PC with two network cards recognized as Local Area Connection and Local Area Connection 2. The first one greed out which means that it's disabled and inaccessible. Therefore you need to know which is the connection you want to configure and right click on it and select Properties.
The Properties window shows you all protocols bound to the given network adapter. The active protocols are checked. You need to configure the Internet protocol (TCP/IP). If you don't see it at first scroll down a little bit. Make sure it's selected and active! Click on it to select it and click the Properties button below.
The first window you will see is the General properties window. Make sure that Obtain an IP address automatically is checked. Then check Use the following DNS server addresses if your computer is located in the Skirball Institute and enter them manually:

10.160.132.172
10.134.252.100

otherwise leave Obtain DNS server addresses automatically checked.

Next, click the Advanced button.
in the Advanced properties window leave IP Settings and Options as they are at default settings. Click on the DNS tab and make sure that your settings match the screenshot on the right. Then click on the WINS tab...
... and again, make sure that your settings match the screenshot on the right. Click the OK button to close the Advanced window and click OK to close the General window and OK again to close the Local Area Connection properties window.

You may need to verify or refresh your TCP/IP assignment. This page tells you how to do that.
