If
your zip disk would not eject it's possibly mechanically stuck. This is
often accompanied by flashing light on the front of the zip drive.
Three
ways of removing a stuck (jammed) ZIP disk
The
first thing to try. Shut down your computer - do not restart but
actually power down by selecting Shut Down from the Special menu.
If the computer is frozen try pressing and holding the Power button
for 5 seconds and if that fails pull out the power cord. Wait a
while before plugging it back! The reason behind it is that when
you restart you do not cut the power to the computer's components
including the ZIP drive. You need to cut the power off to the ZIP
drive in order for it to reset itself. Normally, the ZIP will be
ejected if you start up your computer from a power off state. This,
by the way, works on Macs and PCs.
If
this did not work, restart again and press and hold the mouse button
right after the startup chime. Keep holding it. It should eventually
force both the ZIP and CD drives to eject. This only works on Macs.
The
last method is to find a tiny hole in the front of the ZIP drive
and insert a straightened paper clip until you feel spring-like
resistance. Push a bit harder and you may be able to force the disk
to eject. This is also a universal solution.
Try
the first two methods first. Then, if you're not comfortable with
putting a paper clip inside your computer, email us for help. Please,
do try the first two methods, however, first. They work 99% of the
time!
If
your zip drive is making loud, rapid clicking noises it may be damaged!
