POLICIES COVERING HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

Eligibility for Holiday Pay:

Holiday pay is applicable only to regular employees.

An employee must work the normal scheduled shift before and after the holiday, to be eligible for the holiday pay. If an employee is absent on either scheduled shift before or after the holiday, the department may demand proof of illness, and, if not furnished, may deny pay for such holidays.

If a fixed holiday falls on an employee’s regularly scheduled day off, the employee shall receive an additional day’s regular pay or a day off with regular pay within 30 days of the holiday.

If a fixed holiday falls during an employee’s vacation, the department shall extend the vacation by one (1) day, or the employee shall receive an extra day’s pay or a day off with regular pay at the discretion of the department.

Pay for Work on Holidays: In the event that an employee is required to work on any of the eight

(8) fixed holidays, the employee is to be paid at time-and-one-half for that day and receive an additional day off with regular pay within 30 days of the holiday or an extra day’s regular pay in lieu thereof at the discretion of the department.

Exception: Employees with Object codes 0000, 0100 (salary group S-4 and above) and 0300 are to be paid at the straight time rate for the day and receive an additional day off with regular pay within 30 days of the holiday or an extra day’s regular pay in lieu thereof at the discretion of the department.

Part-Time Employees: Part-time employees with base hours of 17.5 or greater per week are eligible for the eight (8) fixed holidays on a pro-rated basis. Time due for each holiday will be

based on the following formula:
Employee’s Regular Regular Daily Full-Time = Time Due
Scheduled Weekly Hours X Hours for Job Classification per Holiday
Regular Full-Time Workweek
For Job Classification

Example: An employee is regularly scheduled to work 20 hours per week in a job classification which, on a full-time basis, is 35 hours per week (the regular daily full-time scheduled amount of hours in this case would be 7 hours per day.)

Applying the above formula, the employee would be eligible for 20/35 x 7=4 hours. In

this case, the employee would be eligible for 4 hours holiday pay for each of the 8

holidays, for a maximum of 32 hours paid holiday time per year.

Free Days: As of 1/1/01, four (4) free days (pro-rated for part-time employees) are now included as part of an employee’s vacation bank.
