As a graduate student, I studied the role of the Ikaros transcription factor in B cell activation and immunoglobulin class switch recombination, as well as in leukemogenesis.
In the Littman lab, I am interested in the role of non-coding (nc)RNAs in gene regulation, and T cell lineage differentiation and function. I am currently using chromatin marks (e.g. histone methylation patterns) to identify ncRNAs that are differentially expressed between different T cell subsets. These will then be tested for functional roles in lineage choice and T cell function.
As secondary projects, I am working to identify functional regulatory elements in the Cd4 and runx3 loci, which may in turn be important in T cell development and function. In addition, the identification of these elements may yield new strategies for conditionally knocking out genes in T cells, new tools for understanding the epigenetic regulation of gene expression, and clues about unknown factors that regulate T cell development.
