Ron Lab Mouse Shipment

Dear Colleague,

Thanks for your interest in obtaining mutant mice from our lab. As you know shipping mice from one institution to another is a laborious and expensive business. On the Ron Lab side the process will be handled by:

The Ron Lab's contact person
Ms. Yun Yang
Skirball Institute 3-10
NYU School of Medicine
540 First Ave.
New York, NY 10016
Phone: 212 263 7837
Fax: 212 263 8951
e-mail: yyang@saturn.med.nyu.edu

Here is our procedure for shipping mice:

1) We are also obliged to execute a material transfer agreement (MTA) between NYU and your institution governing the transfer of the mice; NYUSOM Department of Laboratory Animal Research (DLAR) will NOT release the mice for shipment before this formality has been concluded! We therefore suggest that you BEGIN this process ASAP, an important part of which is a brief research plan/collaboration plan (if the project is a collaboration) that you need to send us and which is appended to the MTA and defines the scientific aspects of the transfer (otherwise the MTA deals mostly with commercial and liability issues).

The contact information of the NYUSOM official that handles these MTAs is provided below. Once we (the scientists) have agreed upon the terms of the transfer, my lab will notify the NYUSOM official named below of our intention to ship the mice to you.

NYUSOM Official in charge of Material Transfer Agreements:
Jill L.Gold, Esq
Industrial Liaison Office
NYU School of Medicine
650 First Ave. 6th floor
New York, NY 10016
Phone:212 263-6692
Fax: 212 263-8201
e-mail: goldj05@mcmbox.med.nyu.edu

her assistant is :

Sara Lynch
Administrative Assistant
New York University School of Medicine
Office of Industrial Liaison
650 First Avenue, 6 Floor
New York, NY 10016
Ph 212-263-8178
Fx 212-263-8189
"Sara Lynch" <Sara.Lynch@med.nyu.edu>

2) After the MTA has been completed we will inform NYUSOM Department of Laboratory Animal Research (DLAR) that we intend to ship mice to your institution. We fill out an internal NYUSOM form with the following information related to the receiving institution:

Facility Name:

Delivery Address

Name, phone, fax and e-mail of the P.I. receiving the animals

Name, phone, fax and e-mail of the contact person in the P.I.'s lab (if there is one)

Name, phone, fax and e-mail of your animal facility veterinarian

Name, phone, fax and e-mail of your animal facility manager (if different for the veterinarian).

(Please provide us with that information after the MTA has been signed)

3) We will notify you that this form has been filled and delivered to our DLAR and that will serve as a signal for the relevant party in your institution to initiate contact with the relevant party at NYUSOM DLAR. (prematurely contacting the NYUSOM DLAR administrator will confuse matters as she will have no way to know that we intend to ship mice to you).

The NYUSOM DLAR administrator
Ms. Vanda Williams
DLAR, MSB 185
NYU School of Medicine
540 First Ave.
New York, NY 10016
Phone: 212 263 2883
Fax: 212 263 8235
e-mail: williv01@popmail.med.nyu.edu

When discussing the mice with NYU DLAR staff you and your institutional representative should refer to the strain in question by the name that we have agreed upon. Our collection has strains with similarly-sounding names and failure to adhere to an agree-upon name may engender confusion and lead to dangerous errors.

Please refer all subsequent correspondence in this matter to the lab contact person at the address above.

Thanks for your willingness to comply with these stipulations.

Yours truly,
David Ron
(lab head)
