What to do with that precious
reagent you purchased or received as a gift:
Please consult the supplier or an experienced labmate regarding the best procedure for aliquoting and storing "your" reagent. Once you have decided on a storage strategy, pencil this in on the original and on a copy of the datasheet that arrived with the reagent in question. Write your name and the date of receipt on the copy of the datasheet and give it to Miho. Keep the original in your record. The copy you gave Miho will be entered into a chronologically-ordered log-book for future reference. In the future, when possible, please update this log, recording critical events in the life of "your" reagent (e.g. "on such and such a date, transfered all 10 existing tubes to colleague X; now stored at...") Many reagents will be stored in the Common Reagent Stockpile in Fridge #3. Miho has crated an EXCEL spreadsheet for keeping track of the contents of this stockpile. If you place your reagents there, please update the log as described. Implementing this policy will help make our precious reagents more accessible and will avoid duplicated orders and other redundancies. November 8, 2005
