Histopathology Core
The Histopathology Core, based in the Department of Pathology, was established to help labs invested in mouse research acquire the most insightful and accurate information about their engineered animal models. Although there are commercial and academic histology services available, none can provide the same level of service, rapid turn-around time, or serve the educational mission of the department as can a Core Lab in the heart of the department on MSB5.
This Core, which opened its doors for business in April 2005, will begin by focusing on mouse histopathology. We have abundant expertise in necropsy, phenotyping rodent organs and tissues, dissection and tissue processing. We are also able to process blocks of human tissues for IRB-approved studies. (Please see our more extensive list of services below.) As part of the educational mission of the department, we also provide one-on-one consultation and training for graduate students, post-docs, and faculty on the use of Core equipment and the characterization of mouse models.
As we establish our operations and ensure that we are meeting the requirements of our faculty, we will expand our services to accommodate more sophisticated procedures. If we do not currently offer a service that you need, please call us. We are eager to begin working with you, and look forward to many productive conversations and interactions in the months and years to come.
