Molecular Oncology Program
Our department has long been a focal point for Molecular Oncology research at NYU, and our faculty in this program are central to the research initiatives of the new NYU Cancer Institute. We have strong research programs in the following areas:
- regulation of cell cycle progression (Dynlacht, Pagano, Smith)
- regulation of gene expression with an emphasis on signal transduction from the cell exterior and the impact of oncogenic transformation on signaling and gene expression (Burakoff, Dynlacht, Levy, Fujii, Pellicer)
- understanding molecular targets of oncogenes, with tie-ins to mechanisms of genomic instability, DNA repair, DNA damage checkpoints (Dynlacht, Levy, Pagano, Pellicer, Roth, Teebor).
- molecular biology of telomere maintenance, including mechanisms responsible for preventing oncogenic events such as telomere-telomere fusions (Smith)
- mechanisms to ensure proper chromosome segregation during mitosis (Pagano, Smith)
