Directions to the Skirball Institute of Biomolecular Medicine
located within the New York University Medical Center (NYUMC) complex.
The New York University Medical Center occupies the superblock
between 30th and 34th Streets along First Avenue on Manhattan's East
Side. The entrance to the Skirball institute is within the main NYU
Medical Center entrance lobby. The lobby is distinguished by an
overhang covering a semi-circular drive-through driveway along
First Avenue. Click here for a

Upon entering the lobby, the Skirball Institute entrance is at the
far left of the lobby and is clearly labeled. This entrance leads to
an elevator bank that may be taken to the third floor. Upon
exiting the elevator, a large glass-enclosed administrative office
can be seen on one side and a corridor labeled "The Jerome S. Coles
Research Floor" can be seen on the other. To reach the Belasco
Laboratory, walk to the corridor, turn left, and enter the second
laboratory on the left side (Lab #2).
By Car (from outside Manhattan):
- Take the FDR drive, which runs along the east side of Manhattan from the Triboro Bridge
(125th St.) to the Battery Tunnel.
- Exit the FDR at 34th St. and drive west on 34th St. to 2nd Avenue.
- Turn left to go south on 2nd, then turn left again onto 30th St.
- At First Avenue, turn left (north), and NYU Medical Center will be to your right.
- Parking is available under the Health Care Center (530 First Ave) which is about 50 ft from
30th St. on the right side, just north of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Alternatively,
the Kips Bay Garage is on the left side of First Avenue, just south of 33rd St.
From Airports:
The three main airports serving the NY area are managed by the Port Authority of NY and
NJ. Some very useful information is available here concerning flight schedules, ground transportation and other items.
- LaGuardia Airport: Airlink Bus - $13 (877-599-8200 or 718-560-3900 or http://www.airlinknyc.com)
The taxi fare from LGA Airport to Manhattan is metered and should cost between $34-$40 and take 25-45 min depending on traffic.
- JFK Airport: Airlink Bus - $17 (877-599-8200 or 718-560-3900 or http://www.airlinknyc.com)
The flat taxi fare from JFK Airport to Manhattan is $45.
- Newark Airport (New Jersey): Bus transport to the Port Authority Bus Terminal and
Grand Central Terminal (Olympia Bus Service 212-964-6233:~$15). A taxi will cost
approximately $35-40: trip time 45-65 min depending on traffic.
From Railway Stations:
- Penn Station (32nd St. and 7th Avenue) is a brisk 20-25 min walk or 10-15 min taxi
ride ($4) from NYUMC. It provides access to:
- Grand Central Station (42nd St. and Park Avenue South) is a brisk 20-25 min walk or a 10 min taxi
ride ($4) from NYUMC. It provides access to the MetroNorth commuter rail lines to
Connecticut, Westchester County, and the Hudson valley.
From the Bus Terminal:
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Bus Terminal (40th St. and 8th Avenue)
is the terminus for most intercity buses serving New York City. It is a 10-20 min taxi
ride ($6-$8) to NYUMC. Alternatively, take the M15 bus which runs directly to the NYU
Medical Center 34th Street entrance.
By Subway:

- 33rd St. stop on the Number 6 line. It is a 15-20 min walk to NYUMC.
- Grand Central Station (42nd St. and Park Avenue). Connections by bus to all NYC
airports, other subways and the suburban trains to Connecticut, Westchester County, and the Hudson valley.
By Bus:
- The M15 bus runs the length of First Avenue in Manhattan and stops directly in front
of the Skirball Institute.
- The M34 bus runs the length of 34th St. in Manhattan and stops directly in front
of the north entrance to NYU Medical Center on 34th St. east of First Avenue.
- The M16 bus directly connects nationwide bus service at the Port Authority Bus Terminal
(40th St. and 8th Avenue) with the NYU Medical Center 34th St. entrance bus stop.
