To use PostScript file in Word, Quark Express, etc
OR to make slide directly from PC application
Three considerations:
-
make sure file is Encapsulated PostScript
-
make sure file has preview included (not necessary for slides)
-
make sure line thickness is set (no hairlines)
Make EPS file
From Win95
-
choose Kodak ColorEase printer set up as EPS format (Standard Laserwriter
drivers do funny things not appreciated by slidemaker software)
To set up printer:
find "Printers" folder
select PostScript printer you want to use (e.g. Kodak ColorEase)
select "Properties" (right click)
select "Details" and select FILE: for the port:
select "PostScript" and choose Ecapsulated PostScript for format

Problems with slides (e.g., text doesn't show on slides)
-
This happens when standard postscript drivers are used (e.g. Apple Laserwriter)
-
Try using Kodak ColorEase postscript drivers
-
OR ask Jon to open eps files with Adobe Illustrator, then save them again
and slide should be OK
-
set line thickness to at least .01 in SigmaPlot for slides or for Fujix
Prints
From MacIntosh
-
should be able to specify "Print to File" during normal printing and the
result will be EPS file with preview
From Unix
-
edit header to make EPS out of PS file
%!PS-Adobe-3.0 EPSF-3.0
%%Title: a.eps
%%Creator: ICM 2.5 software
%%BoundingBox: 0 0 612 792

-
May need to insert command to make lines thicker than "hairline" (e.g.,
contour maps)
Insert Preview
With MacIntosh (seems to require EPS file to start)
-
run Transverter Pro
-
read in file (don't worry if preview is a bit wrong)
-
Export file as EPSF (make sure preview is specified as Mac PICT)
-
alternatively, run PS2EPS+
With PC (can work with either PS or EPS file)
-
open file with GSVIEW (if installed, may be as easy as double clicking
filename)
-
choose FILE -> PS to EPS and save (this is intermediate EPS file)
-
open the intermediate EPS file (still has no preview)
-
choose EDIT -> Add EPS Preview ("TIFF 4" works, "Interchange" doesn't)
-
(HIJAAK95 should do the same thing, but seems not to recognize initial
EPS files)
Edit Postscript
-
Can edit PostScript file by importing into CorelDraw or into Adobe Illustrator
(Photoshop not recommended)
-
Can convert to TIFF using Transverter and then edit with Photoshop
